It hurts and harms
Author: Lindsey Mason, © 1998-2001

it hurts and harms
no cradling arms
no mate to share
the pain that's there
alone I'll stay

the floods still beckon
must keep a check on
the urge to sink
and pass the brink
of no return

I cross my arms
and hold me tight
I sense alarms
and fight the sight
within my mind

moving closer with intent
I must break out
you must relent
or feel the clout
of my escape

Comments by Lindsey:
Written to try and express fear and intense aloneness which I felt at the time. I was not aware of the nature of the abusive relationship at that time, yet felt terribly alone, without comfort, and like I just had to escape or something awful would happen.
