THE WOMEN OF WANJIRA
MY TRIBUTE

Author: Jennifer, © 2002

I, a stranger
A woman crushed and alone
You opened your hearts and gave to
me
Of your time, your courage, your
wisdom
Though my need was great, you
faltered not
No criticism, no censure, no reproach
You shared of your own deepest
anguish and pain
Your loyalty and strength given
unselfishly
Your friendship never waning
Supporting me when I needed you
most
You reached out to help me
survive
Loyal, strong and brave
You remain in my thoughts
Wherever I may be
Forever part of me
We are Sisters, bonded together,
Links in a chain
The women of Wanjira

I wanted to include this tribute as I know there are many groups of women like these and I would like it to be a tribute to them also.

They are an anonymous group who get together and support each other. They were there for me when I quite literally, was totally physically helpless from my injuries. There were two ladies who alternated caring for me as they both admitted later that they "found it very draining" to hear me screaming involuntarily as they helped me to sit up. I realise now that is the reason I took him back again. I have always hated being a burden in any way to anyone. I'm very independent. It's a dreadful thing to feel you have no one to care for you. To feel unable to tell your family. They are everything I said in my tribute to them and I still maintain contact with two of the ladies though I am thousands of kms from them. I changed the name of the group to protect its membership.
