  Shattered Glass
Author: Nicole Hollis

  Our portrait on the shelf,

You knocked onto the floor.

Fallen to pieces,

We aren’t picture perfect anymore.

I attempted to tape

The broken frame

But, the shattered glass

Remained the same.

Maybe you didn’t mean to,

So I gave us another chance.

Things seemed to be okay

Only for the first glance.

This time it was the window

You through the chair through.

How can we replace the stained glass

I put so much time into?

Well, maybe it wasn’t that important.

Maybe it was meant not to be.

I shouldn’t have argued my point.

I shouldn’t have made you so angry.

Next time, I swear

I’ll do everything right.

I promise I won’t

Give us reason to fight.

Now why did you say

You did it just to hurt me?

Now I shattered

The first glass I could see.

Depression arose

When I saw the shattered frame.

Us smiling at our little boy

Before we’d even given him a name.

I tried so hard

To repiece the mass.

But you just can’t fix

Shattered glass.

As always, the blame went to me

But, it didn’t matter,

Because my most precious glass

You’d already shattered.
